Salaat Ghufaila Recited between Magrib and Isha

Recite 4 Rak’ats Nafilah (2X2) after Maghrib, 2 of which can be Ghufaylah

It is recommended not to say anything (other than supplications) in the space of time between the obligatory and Nafila sunset prayers.
Surah al-Kaferoon (No. 109) should be recited in the first unit and Surah al-Tawhid in the second.
In the third and fourth units, it is optional to recite any other Surah desired.As in other Nafila
It is also sufficient to recite Surah al-Fatihah alone in each unit. It is advisable to recite the Surahs with audible voice,
It is also recommended to repeat the following prayer seven times in the last prostration (sajdah) of all supererogatory prayers each night, especially at the night before Friday):

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْالُكَ بِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيـمِ

allahumma inni as’aluka biwajhika alkarimi
O Allah, I surely beseech You in the name of Your Honorable Face,

وَٱسْمِكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

wasmika al`azimi
Your Tremendous Name,

وَمُلْكِكَ ٱلْقَدِيـمِ

wa mulkika alqadimi
and Your Timeless Kingdom,

انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

an tusalliya `ala muhammadin wa alihi
to send blessings to Muhammad and his Household

وَ انْ تَغْفِرَ لِي ذَنْبِيَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ

wa an taghfira li dhanbiya al`azima
and to forgive my enormous sin;

إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلْعَظِيمَ إِلاَّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

innahu la yaghfiru al`azima illa al`azimu
for none can forgive the enormous save the All-tremendous (Lord).

You may then repeat the following ten times:

مَا شَاءَ ٱللَّهُ

ma sha’a allahu
Only that which Allah wills shall come to pass!

لاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِٱللَّهِ

la quwwata illa billahi
There is no strength save with Allah.

اَسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهَ

astaghfiru allaha

I pray the forgiveness of Allah.

Additonal Recitations in 3rd & 4th Unit of the Nafila of Magrib prayer
it is advisable to recite in the third unit Surah al-Fatihah and the following verses, which are the first six verses of Surah al-Hadid (No. 57):

سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضِ

sabbaha lillahi ma fi alssamawati wal-ardi
Whatever is in the heavens and the earth declares the glory of Allah,

وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ.

wa huwa al`azizu alhakimu
and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

لَهُ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضِ

lahu mulku alssamawati wal-ardi
His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth;

يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ

yuhyi wa yumitu
He gives life and causes death;

وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ.

wa huwa `ala kulli shay’in qadirun
and He has power over all things.

هُوَ ٱلاوَّلُ وَٱلآخِرُ

huwa al-awwalu wal-akhiru
He is the First and the Last

وَٱلظَّاهِرُ وَٱلْبَاطِنُ

walzzahiru walbatinu
and the Ascendant (over all) and the Knower of hidden things,

وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ.

wa huwa bikulli shay’in `alimun
and He is Cognizant of all things.

هُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضَ

huwa alladhi khalaqa alssamawati wal-arda
He it is who created the heavens and the earth

فِي سِتَّةِ ايَّامٍ

fi sittati ayyamin
in six periods,

ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَىٰ ٱلْعَرْشِ

thumma istawa `ala al`arshi
and He is firm in power;

يَعْلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِي ٱلارْضِ

ya`lamu ma yaliju fi al-ardi
He knows that which goes deep down into the earth

وَمَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا

wa ma yakhruju minha
and that which comes forth out of it,

وَمَا يَنْزِلُ مِنْ ٱلسَّمَاءِ

wa ma yanzilu min alssama’i
and that which comes down from the heaven

وَمَا يَعْرُجُ فِيهَا

wa ma ya`ruju fiha
and that which goes up into it,

وَهُوَ مَعَكُمْ ايْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ

wa huwa ma`akum ayna ma kuntum
and He is with you wherever you are;

وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ.

wallahu bima ta`maluna basirun
and Allah sees what you do.

لَهُ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضِ

lahu mulku alssamawati wal-ardi
His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth;

وَإِلَىٰ اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ ٱلامُورُ.

wa ila allahi turja`u al-umuru
and to Allah are (all) affairs returned.

يُولِجُ ٱللَّيْلَ فِي ٱلنَّهَارِ

yuliju allayla fi alnnahari
He causes the night to enter in upon the day,

وَيُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِي ٱللَّيْلِ

wa yuliju alnnahara fi allayli
and causes the day to enter in upon the night,

وَهُوَ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ.

wa huwa `alimun bidhati alssuduri
and He is Cognizant of what is in the hearts.

It is also advisable to recite in the fourth unit of the nafila sunset prayer Surah al-Fatihah and the following holy verses, which are the last four verses of Surah al-Hashr (No. 59):

لَوْ انْزَلْنَا هٰذَا ٱلْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ

law anzalna hadha al-qur’ana `ala jabalin
Had We sent down this Qur’an on a mountain,

لَرَايْتَهُ خَاشِعاً مُتَصَدِّعاً مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ

lara’aytahu khashi`an mutasaddi`an min khashyati allahi
you would certainly have seen it falling down, splitting asunder because of the fear of Allah,

وَتِلْكَ ٱلامْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ

wa tilka al-amthalu nadribuha lilnnasi
and We set forth these parables to men

لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

la`allahum yatafakkaruna

that they may reflect.

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ

huwa allahu alladhi la ilaha illa huwa
He is Allah besides Whom there is no god;

عَالِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَادَةِ

`alimu alghaybi walshshahadati
the Knower of the unseen and the seen;

هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

huwa alrrahmanu alrrahimu
He is the Beneficent, the Merciful.

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ

huwa allahu alladhi la ilaha illa huwa
He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god;

ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْقُدُّوسُ

almaliku alquddusu
the King, the Holy,

ٱلسَّلاَمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُ ٱلْمُهَيْمِنُ

alssalamu almu’minu almuhayminu
the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, Guardian over all,

ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْجَبَّارُ ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرُ

al`azizu aljabbaru almutakabbiru
the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness.

سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

subhana allahi `amma yushrikuna
Glory be to Allah from what they set up with Him.

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَالِقُ ٱلْبَارِئُ ٱلْمُصَوِّرُ

huwa allahu alkhaliqu albari’u almusawwiru
He is Allah the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner;

لَهُ ٱلاسْمَاءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ

lahu al-asma’u alhusna
His are the most excellent names;

يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضِ

yusabbihu lahu ma fi alssamawati wal-ardi
whatever is in the heavens and the earth declares His glory;

وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ.

wa huwa al`azizu alhakimu
and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

As in other Nafila , it is sufficient to recite Surah al-Fatihah alone in each unit. It is advisable to recite the Surahs with audible voice,

You may then do the Thanksgiving prostration & recite

شُكْراً شُكْراً شُكْراً

shukran shukran shukran
Thanks, thanks, thanks.

Al-Kulayni has reported Imam al Sadiq (`a) as saying: When you finish the nafila sunset prayer, you may pass your hand over your forehead and repeat the following prayer three times:

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِي لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاََّ هُوَ

bismillahi alladhi la ilaha illa huwa
In the Name of Allah save Whom there is no god,

عَالِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَادَةِ

`alimu alghaybi walshshahadati
the Knower of the unseen and the seen,

ٱلرَّحْمٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

alrrahmanu alrrahimu
the All-beneficent, and the All-merciful.

اللَّهُمَّ اذْهِبْ عَنِّيَ ٱلْهَمَّ وَٱلْحَزَنَ

allahumma adhhib `anniya alhamma walhazana
O Allah, (please) take away from me grief and distress.
